As mentioned in a previous blog, Cambridge has an endless amount of attractions and things to do, many of which are world famous, such as Kings College chapel and the Botanic Gardens. Aside from these established activities and landmarks are some lesser known gems that you might like to visit next time you’re in the area. The Orchard Tea Garden, Grantchester
Tea, coffee and cakes in a beautiful setting, what’s not to love? You will find these gardens in the sought after village of Grantchester just to the west of Cambridge. You can get there on foot, following the riverside walk along the Cam. Dogs are also welcome!
Burwash Larder, Barton
A farm shop and deli located in the grounds of Burwash Manor. You will find local produce, handpicked delicacies and artisan products filling the shelves.
Cambridge Cheese Company, All Saints Passage
Located in the city centre, tucked away amongst the historic buildings of Cambridge, you will find this shop which stocks an amazing range of almost 200 seasonal cheeses as well as having a fresh olive counter and a range of cured meats. You will also find a selection of sauces, vinegars and more.
‘Dinky Doors’
Across the city you may spot these tiny doors dotted around, hidden just out of plain sight around Cambridge. You can even join the official Dinky Doors Tour. If you want to find them for yourself, you can visit www.dinkydoors.co.uk to download a map showing their locations. Great fun and a good way to get walking and see the sights of Cambridge.
Kettle’s Yard
Redeveloped in 2018, Kettle’s Yard is a beautiful building housing the University of Cambridge’s modern and contemporary art gallery. There is also a café and an education wing. Throughout the year, there are various events, concerts and exhibitions to keep all ages entertained.
Jesus Green Lido
Opened in 1923, Jesus Green lido is one of the few remaining examples of the lidos built across the country in the 1920s and opens for public swimming, usually between May and October, every year. Located alongside the River Cam between Jesus Lock and Victoria Avenue bridge, the pool is significantly longer than it is wide and is one of the longest outdoor pools in the country. Be warned – the pool is unheated!
